The Steelers signed offensive tackle Marcus Gilbert to a new six-year contract that will keep him with the team through the 2019 season, the team announced today.

Gilbert is entering his fourth NFL season after being selected by the Steelers in the second round (63rd overall) of the 2011 NFL Draft. He has started 34-of-35 games played in the regular season and has started one postseason contest.

In his first season in 2011, Gilbert became the first Steelers’ rookie to start at tackle since 2006, as he made 13 starts. He was part of an offensive line that paved the way for the Steelers’ offense to record 372.3 net yards per game, which was the fourth-highest total in the AFC. Gilbert was honored with the Joe Greene Great Performance Award, given annually to the Steelers’ top rookie.

In 2013, Gilbert started all 16 games at right tackle, the only Steelers’ offensive linemen to start every regular-season contest.
