ESPN and the Atlantic Coast Conference jointly announced on Thursday that Pitt will travel to Indiana as part of the 16th annual 2014 ACC/Big Ten Basketball Challenge Presented by DICK’S Sporting Goods. Pitt will play at Indiana on Tuesday, Dec. 2 at Assembly Hall in Bloomington, Ind. The contest will be televised on one of the ESPN family of networks: ESPN, ESPN2 or ESPNU.

Pitt and Indiana will meet for the ninth time in history with the series tied at 4-4. The last time Pitt played at Indiana was 73 years ago on Dec. 26, 1941. Pitt and Indiana last met in the Jimmy V Classic at Madison Square Garden on Dec. 8, 2009. The two schools also faced each other in the 2003 NCAA Tournament in Boston, a 74-52 Panthers victory.

The ACC leads its all-time series against the Big Ten with a 10-3-2 overall record. In 2013, the two conferences tied in the event for the second consecutive season, with each league claiming six games apiece. Eight of the 15 challenges have been decided by one win or less. All 14 Big Ten teams and 14 of the 15 ACC teams will participate in the 2014 Challenge. Last year, Pitt defeated Penn State 78-69 in its first game in the event.

In addition to its ACC/Big Ten Challenge contest, Pitt will compete in its first-ever Maui Invitational. As part of the Maui Invitational, the Panthers will host one game at the Petersen Events Center and play three games from Nov. 24-26 at the Lahaina Center in Maui, Hawaii. Potential opponents in Hawaii include Arizona, San Diego State, Kansas State, Missouri, BYU, Purdue and host Chaminade.
