The Pittsburgh Pirates have acquired left-handed pitcher Stephen Tarpley and a player to be named from the Baltimore Orioles in exchange for outfielder Travis Snider. The announcement was made by Executive Vice President, General Manager Neal Huntington.

The 21-year-old Tarpley spent the entire 2014 season with Aberdeen in the New York-Penn League and went 3-5 with a 3.68 ERA (66.0ip/27er) and 60 strikeouts in 13 games (12 starts). He led the Aberdeen staff in starts, innings pitched and starts while also ranking tied for fifth in the league in K’s.

Tarpley was Baltimore’s third-round selection (98th pick overall) in the 2013 First-Year Player Draft and made his professional debut that summer with the GCL Orioles, where he posted a 2.14 ERA (21.0ip/5er) and 25 strikeouts in seven starts.
