PIRATES SIGN TEN MORE PLAYERS FROM 2016 DRAFT
The Pittsburgh Pirates today signed the following players from the 2016 First-Year Player Draft. The announcement was made by Joe DelliCarri, Pirates Director of Amateur Scouting.

3 Stephen Alemais INF 6-0/190 Tulane University West Virginia Black Bears
Took home first-team All-American Athletic Conference honors in 2016 while also being named a D1Baseball.com pre-season second-team All-American and a Louisville Slugger third-team All-American…Hit .311 with 14 doubles, one home run, 28 RBI and 19 stolen bases as a junior in 2016 at Tulane…Was an all-second team American Athletic Conference member as a sophomore in 2015 while also being named to the 2015 NCAA Baton Rouge Regional All-Tournament Team

10 Matt Anderson RHP 6-2/200 Morehead State University West Virginia Black Bears
Was a first-team All-Ohio Valley Conference selection in 2016 while setting the single-season school record with 130 strikeouts…Finished career at Morehead State ranked second in strikeouts (321) and games started (44)…Led the team in strikeouts in all four of his seasons at Morehead State…Became the seventh player in program history to be taken in the top 10 rounds of the draft.

12 Arden Pabst C 6-0/200 Georgia Tech West Virginia Black Bears
Hit .248 with five doubles, four home runs and 19 RBI in 41 games as a junior in 2016 at Georgia Tech….Threw out 11 of the 23 baserunners (48 percent) attempting to steal against him… Led the ACC in caught stealings (25) and caught-stealing percentage (.445), which was among the nation’s top 10 in both categories during his sophomore season in 2015… His 25 runners thrown out in 2015 were the most by a Yellow Jacket since current Baltimore Orioles’ catcher Matt Wieters had 22 in 2007.

20 Adam Oller RHP 6-4/228 Northwestern State University Bristol Pirates
Went 8-1 with a 1.23 ERA (109.0ip/15er) in 15 starts during his junior season at Northwestern State University… Earned All-Southland Conference honors in 2016… Was a pre-season First-Team All-Southland Conference selection… Spent the summer of 2015 with the Falmouth Commodores of the Cape Cod Baseball League.

23 Garrett Brown OF 5-11/185 Western Carolina University Bristol Pirates
Finished 2016 with a Southern Conference-best 34 stolen bases, which ranked third in Western Carolina’s single-season record books… Started all 58 games in center field in his senior season… Hit .321 with 19 extra base hits, including 12 doubles, three triples and four home runs… Was previously selected by the Rockies in the 43rd round of the MLB draft in 2011.

29 Geoff Hartlieb RHP 6-6/210 Lindenwood University Bristol Pirates
Went 5-15 in 40 career appearances (22 starts) at Lindenwood University… Was an all-state basketball player at Highland High School (IL)… Was also selected in the 37th round of the 2015 draft by the New York Mets.
